Varda Family Iron County Heritage Archives

Our Families--Early Twentieth Century--Iron County, Wisconsin

Our “Varda Family Iron County Heritage Archives” is a work in-progress. Corrections and additional contributions from family members are most welcome.

Each family name–listed below–links to a list of the names of the individuals in that particular family. And each name in turn links to collections of articles that reference that individual, which  appeared over the years in  Hurley, Wisconsin’s local newspaper The Iron County Miner. The collections cover from the early 1900s through the 1980s.

In addition, for the Vardas, there are  collections of articles from from the Capital Times and Wisconsin State Journal which reference John Patrick or Margaret Pinkley Varda during their time in Madison, Wisconsin from 1950-1982.

Newspaper articles in the past, detailed much more information and perspectives than they do now. The articles provide a small window into lives long past. They describe births, deaths, marriages, new jobs, war, new homes, trips taken, events attended, club memberships, volunteer activities and much more. Articles pertaining to John P. and Margaret P. Varda detail their time in the assembly–bills they voted for, issues they advocated for–as well as the ideas and principles they shared consistently with their community.

The “Family Views” are family trees for each family which were constructed using  the information from the newspaper articles as well as ancestry.com. The family trees are not complete. They represent only the individuals that are referenced in the newspaper articles contained in the archive. And  are intended to help indicate the relationships between the family members.
