John P. and Margaret P. Varda

The sheer volume of newspaper articles and other memorabilia pertaining to John and Margaret necessitated an entire page be dedicated to them. Because of their lifelong dedication to public service, there are numerous articles in The Iron County Miner, The Capital Times and The Wisconsin State Journal–written by them and others–chronicling their extensive service, activities, principles and views.

In addition to the newspaper articles, there is the Varda Family Archive which consists of the contents of the boxes and trunks which followed John and Margaret throughout their lives from attic to attic. Margaret retained an astounding collection of mementos of her life as well as the lives of her family. The mementos are varied representing every facet of her life—from beginning to end— encompassing the small to the very momentous events, ideas and thoughts. Items in the archive include but are not limited to—late 1880s and early 1900s photos of Duncan and Pinkley ancestors, Pinkley family history, Roy H. Pinkley’s grammar school grades, George Pinkley and Margaret P.’s memoirs, Margaret P.’s journals from her childhood, war letters, war mementos and photos, numerous photos from every year, Margaret P. editorials and written thoughts regarding topics from trucking to abortion, baby items from each of Margaret P.’s children, letters from grandchildren and more.
